About Mark Mannering Barton

Hello, I’m Mark Mannering Barton,

A professionally trained artist and art teacher based in Teddington.

I specialise in highly detailed pet portrait commissions and offer private and small group art tuition for adults across South West London and online throughout the UK where I teach composition, drawing, pen and ink, water colours and coloured pencil.

I began drawing as a child, growing up surrounded by pets and wildlife. Later, formal training at art college allowed my love of animals and fine art to merge into a focused practice that I have continued to refine for over 30 years.

Throughout my career, I have worked across both fine art and commercial design, developing a disciplined, structured approach to visual communication that now informs both my portrait commissions and my teaching.

Living in Teddington, animals are part of daily life. From my own dogs, Leia and Simba, to the deer in Bushy Park, the swans by the lock, and even the occasional seal along the river, the local landscape continues to inspire my work.

My work is not about copying a photograph hair by hair. Instead, I focus on capturing character, expression and individuality the essence that makes each animal unique.

Every portrait is carefully composed to reflect personality and emotional connection, creating something meaningful and lasting.

Alongside my portrait work, I now offer private art tuition and small group classes for adults who want to learn properly and build confidence in their creative ability.

Lessons are structured yet relaxed, tailored to your interests whether that’s landscapes, still life, pets, or mastering drawing fundamentals from the ground up.

My aim is always steady progress, clarity, and genuine enjoyment of the process.
